2013 - Proposed changes to Magic Cove
Major changes will be taking place at Magic Cove prior to the start of the 2013 season and we would like to clarify what is happening and why we are doing it.
As regulars are well aware the pitches on the site are not necessarily the largest and although most are probably happy with the situation we have decided to make changes which we feel are necessary and long overdue.
When Magic Cove was built in 1981 the average caravan was only about 4 or 5 metres long and tents were of the ridge design and if it was 4m long it was a very big one. Now some caravans are over 8m in length and many tents are the size of a small house with pods coming out in all directions. The pitches were simply not designed for the units of today.
In 2007 we were reported to the local authority for overcrowding by a disgruntled customer who booked in with a 3m x 2m tent, but instead arrived with one four times the size! We had put them on one of our smaller pitches but obviously the tent overcrowded the pitch. Following a visit from the Council we were threatened with the loss of our licence unless we could comply and keep the required gaps between units. We managed to address the complaint on that occasion, however it has become increasingly difficult to maintain the required gaps.
Because of this we have made the difficult, but correct decision to increase the size of the pitches. Of course the only way we can achieve this, is to reduce the number of pitches on the site and obviously this will mean it will be difficult to accommodate all our current regular customers. At the end of this season we will be looking at how many pitches we have to lose, then sitting down and completely redesigning the layout of the site. Within the new layout we hope to include a launderette with washing machine, dryer and also new washing up facilities and possibly a payphone. We cannot say a definite number of pitches we will be left with at this time, but it is likely to be around eighteen, a potential loss of seven pitches.
By the start of next season (2012) we will have a new site layout plan and will ask all customers who wish to rebook for 2013 to give us a first, second and third choice of dates and also pitches. We will then have the difficult job of sitting down and trying to accommodate as many of you as we can. We envisage the problem will mainly affect the spring bank week and the main school holidays.
The prices will have to increase, but will still be lower than many other sites in the area and you will be getting more space and new facilities.
Should we be unable to accommodate all who wish to rebook, we will have to consider how we decide who will get a pitch, but it is likely that those who have been visiting Magic Cove the longest will get preference.
This is very difficult for us, as you have all become like a second family to us, however we hope you appreciate our problem and understand why we have to make these changes.
We will still be taking the usual provisional bookings for next season but felt it only fair that we give you plenty of warning about the planned changes.
Thank you
Lesley and Brian
